After its twelfth chinese zodiac release, Davidoff now offers a complete collection.
Patience is everything. Executives at Davidoff have waited for a dozen years before announcing a spectacular new, limited edition collector’s piece, which incorporates each and every Chinese zodiac release the company has ever made.
Exactly 100 pieces of the Davidoff The Year of Collector’s Edition will be sold – and each will contain eight cigars from every zodiac release since 2013 in a stunning cabinet.
“The grand finale of The Year of Collector’s Edition allows us to reward consumers with a truly exceptional creation that encompasses our limited editions dedicated to the Chinese zodiac from 2013 to 2024,” says Edward Simon, Davidoff’s head of global marketing.
“I’m thrilled that we can now bring our combined expertise from the past 12 years to a select few in a collection that takes craftsmanship and packaging design to a new level. Especially for aficionados who already own some of our former limited editions, this assortment offers them a unique chance to complete their collections or to enjoy their favorite cigars again. This edition provides us with a great opportunity to elevate the iconic Davidoff brand in terms of product and design, and to create even more
desirability globally.”
The company’s first foray into making special edition cigars available worldwide aimed specifically at the Chinese consumer was in 2013, with the Year of the Snake. This year’s edition is the Year of the Dragon. “With these editions, we’ve been able to offer our aficionados a seamless journey that reflects the zodiac sign, from opening the box to enjoying the special cigar,” Simon continues.
“I can’t reveal too much at this stage, but now that we’ve completed our first cycle, we’ll be bringing new ideas and energy to our annual limited editions.”
A real collector's item: Davidoff's The Year of Collector's Edition is made up of eight cigars from each of the 2013–2024 limited editions.
The characteristics of each sign have been used to inspire the blend and format of the accompanying cigar, as well as the box.
“Each zodiac sign has its own distinctive and fascinating character traits, which we translated into the format of our cigars and the tasting notes, as well as the packaging design. In the same way that larger zodiac signs such as the Horse, the Ox or the Dragon have led to the creation of generously sized cigars, the Rabbit Perfecto cigar discloses its depth and complexity slowly – just as the Rabbit reveals its character gradually.”
The Collector’s Edition comes in the form of a cabinet consisting of a wooden tray for each annual release. Its square shape was inspired by Asian ceremonial rituals such as the tea ceremony. Each tray holds eight limited edition cigars and is adorned with the gold-engraved zodiac icon, release year and cigar format. Each pagoda-style cabinet will be individually numbered with an engraving on the case.
“We realized early on that the Chinese consumer was going to be an important driver of the cigar market in the future. It was then and there that we decided to dedicate a global series of limited-edition cigars to the Chinese zodiac calendar,” Simon explains.
“Above all, the complexity of the zodiac signs and their respective stories and translating them into materials, designs and blends was an exciting challenge for our teams around the world working together on this project.
“Our ambition is to continuously surprise and delight our aficionados globally, and in China specifically.”
