A real collector's item: Davidoff's The Year of Collector's Edition is made up of eight cigars from each of the 2013–2024 limited editions.
The characteristics of each sign have been used to inspire the blend and format of the accompanying cigar, as well as the box.
“Each zodiac sign has its own distinctive and fascinating character traits, which we translated into the format of our cigars and the tasting notes, as well as the packaging design. In the same way that larger zodiac signs such as the Horse, the Ox or the Dragon have led to the creation of generously sized cigars, the Rabbit Perfecto cigar discloses its depth and complexity slowly – just as the Rabbit reveals its character gradually.”
The Collector’s Edition comes in the form of a cabinet consisting of a wooden tray for each annual release. Its square shape was inspired by Asian ceremonial rituals such as the tea ceremony. Each tray holds eight limited edition cigars and is adorned with the gold-engraved zodiac icon, release year and cigar format. Each pagoda-style cabinet will be individually numbered with an engraving on the case.
“We realized early on that the Chinese consumer was going to be an important driver of the cigar market in the future. It was then and there that we decided to dedicate a global series of limited-edition cigars to the Chinese zodiac calendar,” Simon explains.
“Above all, the complexity of the zodiac signs and their respective stories and translating them into materials, designs and blends was an exciting challenge for our teams around the world working together on this project.
“Our ambition is to continuously surprise and delight our aficionados globally, and in China specifically.”
